Human travel progressed in leaps and bounds. Space seemed unassailable as reaching the nearest space rock took years with little to show. Then, our hero, just a boy, discovered the utopia. A sweet secret that was always within our grasp. Only lacking a bow to the rocks below our feet prevented its discovery. Corathetite, it was called. Harnessing the energy of the stars, it was sufficient for one to reach the stars. No more close rocks we needed to visit. Now, here is the story….
– As our young scientist grew up, he spent much time in near-earth orbit testing the sacred rocks discovered many years before. Alas, he discovered a more important love; a love that was never lost. Writing years later, he recalls the challenge of separating his loved one from the projects and masses that sought their attention. He cared only for her.
– Our hero made many adjustments and then, off he went to make the test. Entering the rocket, he takes leave of the one he loves and may never see again. In space, he pines over lost love but hopes for a reunion in his time, in her time, in someone’s future.
– Developing the means to use Corathetite for long-distance space travel, our aging hero developed the capable machine. At the Lagrange Point, where time seems to stand still, the Cathedral is erected. With Gothic architecture, the Cathedral was built. From the earth, through the sky, it sent the willing towards a distant horizon. Many were sent. None had returned.
– Space is unending with no understanding. Our hero sleeps and dreams of his family; a family of four melding together, talking, loving, arguing. missing them, he cries out but comes to terms with reality. His family will always be within him.
– In slumber, he recalls the fear of the feline menace that once prowled the jungle of his upbringing. So long ago it was, but in his dreams, it existed still, and so ready it was to eat those in the village of Champaran.
– Our hero reaches stasis in the vacuum of space. Unclear of survival, he rests. Yet another dream brings memories, sensations, and visions of his life back on the home planet. He dreams of his family and the lost paradise of water.
– With heart racing, our hero wakes from long slumber to find the distant stars of his planned destination. An unworldly paradise he sees, and a peace surrounds the spirit within.
– Food runs scarce, and the onboard crop fails. Longing for care, love, and the earth that belongs, his memory flies to an ancient square of his dreams. One where he might have grown up. To feel gravity and limited flight.
